CORRECTIVE EXERCISE

Based on our habits; how we sit, stand and move whether we exercise or not we develop a movement pattern or behaviour which can help or hinder us. Although we may experience multiple symptoms, limitations or movements we find difficult to complete this is often caused by one or two areas of dysfunction in the body for which we compensate. Often an individual may not even realise their body is employing these “coping mechanisms”.

At Sharpe Results, the corrective process begins by assessing posture statically; we can often identify the mechanics of a problem with this tool however some people will become adept at compensating for and hiding their imbalances (adaptive coping). This is why we always use movement testing of dynamic posture (how your body copes with movement) a good movement assessment tool such as Gait analysis will highlight areas of dysfunction and compensatory movement. This in depth screening is paramount to ensuring a successful solution to the problem.

Once we understand and identify imbalances in the body we can apply a progressive exercise prescription; this is a bespoke structure for that individual client to work to in order to correct their imbalances, improve pain, weakness and performance.

TESTIMONIALS

"Five weeks before Christmas I suffered a plexopathy; a viral attack on my lower back vertebrae and damage to the nerve endings causing my left leg to collapse resulting in increasing falls, lack of mobility and loss of power of movement in my leg. This in turn led to drastic muscle loss.

I spent four weeks in Hinchingbrooke Hospital, once released I was left housebound on a Zimmer frame and crutches.

Ben Sharpe was recommended to me for his professionalism and achievement of recovery in lower back pain and mobility rehabilitation.

After identification of problem areas requiring treatment, Ben took me through an increasing series of mobility and correctional exercises. He has assisted me in moving forward from lack of power and co-ordination in my leg to gaining the confidence and capability to now being able to walk around the house, and my local area without crutches for a full mile. His treatment and sessions have been so important in giving me a large part of my life back for which I am extremely grateful.

He is a consummate professional and confidently coaches you through mobility exercises as well as strengthening exercises to the affected areas.

With a great knowledge he gives confidence and trust to the patient as well as positive feedback on what the treatment is aiming to achieve. He knows his business and I cannot recommend his services highly enough."
